Obviously, not every member of a party believes in fully, or adheres to fully, the platform of their party. And that does make things a bit difficult at times when trying to figure out where people stand. It is very important to check out each candidate…from the Presidency on down to your local elections.
A good place to start, though, is the actual platform of the party whose ticket they are running on. It does at least give an idea of where they are leaning…of what their overall focus is.
So, I give you the links to the two main platforms.
Democratic Platform: http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEVvDcNRJY42UA0cpjmolQ;_ylu=X3oDMTByOHZyb21tBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzcg–/RV=2/RE=1477617245/RO=10/RU=https%3a%2f%2fwww.demconvention.com%2fwp-content%2fuploads%2f2016%2f07%2fDemocratic-Party-Platform-7.21.16-no-lines.pdf/RK=0/RS=7QdTqOQ0.aIiLNEGtq.whTzSKPU-
Republican Platform: I cannot copy the link to the direct download, but the button is very near the top at this site: https://gop.com/platform/
I highly recommend you read them carefully and decide which one fits the most with what you want to see happening in your country. They are pdf downloads and you can search them. I did some word searches and found them to be rather interesting. For example, “constitution” shows up in one form or another 80 times in one platform and only 7 in the other.
Of course, way more important than how many times a word is used is what they are actually saying about it. Merely using a word does not mean anything in particular. You need context for that.
And for 3rd party people, you need to check these out, too. If a certain 3rd party candidate had made it, I would actually vote for him. However, the candidate that made it in his place is not even truly in agreement with that party’s own platform! And let’s be honest here, a 3rd party vote at this point is mostly a “protest” vote. And you certainly have the right to do that! However, you need to figure out which of the 2 major parties you want to live under because it really is not doable for a 3rd party candidate to win this go around. (Maybe in the future! I am board with that!)
So, think about the issues you hold most dear. Think about the Supreme Court because the next president will appoint 1 and possibly up to 3 more, depending on whether they serve 1 or 2 terms. Decide for yourself how worth it is to do a protest vote THIS election. AND, decide if you want to at least fight for the party whose platform is closest to, or has at least SOME of, the things you hold dear.
Some elections are more critical than others. I would say this is one of the most critical…if not THE most critical election…I have had the privilege to vote in. And yes, it IS a PRIVILEGE! Even if you think things are “rigged”, you still have a chance to be heard.
Get out there and VOTE!
And watch the machines. There have been reported shenanigans happening with the voter machines. Let the polling people know right away. Start with whomever represents your candidate. If no one representing your candidate is there, call their office. Call the news. Do NOT just put it on FB. Go to someone with authority. The people at the polls have the authority and right to pull bad machines.
Finally, this country will not be “saved” by any person. The only real chance our nation has is for us to repent and seek our Creator whole-heartedly. Our Creator is the only One with all the real answers and solutions. But will we listen?
