The crash of the Concorde on July 25, 2000 could have been avoided. The crash was caused by a small piece of metal that fell off the plane that took off right before it. Those little bits of debris that end up on runways cause a huge problem for airports, resulting in lost lives and a lot of damage.
An Israeli company has come up with a detection device that would alert the tower to debris and even send a video of it. This would enable them to not only clear the runway before the next plane takes off, but also alert the plane from which the debris fell.
Kudos to the company!
