The Feasts of YHVH not only tell of things that happened in Israel’s past, but they also prophetically foreshadow the things of Messiah. There is SO much woven into the Feasts and all through scripture that I can only really give you bits and pieces. I will, however, list some resources at the bottom that you can check out.
Since this is about the Fall Feasts, I will just give a quick connection between the Spring Feasts and Messiah. The Spring Feasts were fulfilled by Yeshua/Jesus the first time He came. He was the Pesach/Passover Lamb. The Feast of Unleavened Bread reflects His burial. He was the First Fruits of those raised from the dead.
The Feast of Weeks/Shavuot aka Pentecost celebrated the giving of the Torah to Moshe/Moses on the mountain and represents the birth of the body of Yeshua, the church…and so much more!
Then you have the Fall Feasts. Yom Teruah/Rosh Hashanah I wrote about somewhat here: L’Shanah Tovah! and L’Shanah Tovah Prayer. It represents the taking of the Bride for the wedding feast. The honeymoon lasts for 7 years, which we think of as the time of Jacob’s trouble…the tribulation.
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, foreshadows Messiah’s atoning for our sins. It is a time of repentance and reflection while looking forward to Messiah’s coming back to set foot upon the Mount of Olives. It represents the repentance and redemption of His people. There is wording regarding the return of Yeshua to the Mount of Olives that is similar to the wording in Yom Kippur.
Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, is called “The Season of Our Joy”. Following the repentance and redemption of Yom Kippur, it is a time of celebrating. The people build tabernacles, or booths, to stay in during Sukkot. It is a reminder of the time in the wilderness when they lived in temporary shelters. It also marks the harvest, the in-gathering. When Yeshua comes back, He will be tabernacled with His people during the 1,000 year reign. All the nations of the earth will come to Him in Yerushalayim.
The Feasts point to events in history and events yet to come. The scriptures give us even more, though. It shares not only events, but also times and periods. It also gives glimpses of YHVH’s timeline so that we can know approximately when Yeshua will return. For example, did you know that the Hebrew people KNEW that Messiah was supposed to come around the 4,000th year…about 2,ooo years ago? Yep, it is all there in the scriptures!
I promised you resources. I have not had time to read each one thoroughly as I am still learning, too. However, these resources come from people who others I know respect. They may have some minor differences of thought, but as far as I can see, they are pretty much in agreement with one another. Some go in-depth. Others cover just the surface. Hopefully, you will find what you need.
